Apple’s App Store to Welcome NFT’s at a Hefty Cut
Since apple’s recent IOS update, the App Store policies have been updated trading NFT’s through in-app purchases. Yet, there still are some barriers to be surpassed.
Apple, hasn’t been really involved over blockchain technologies yet. Even though the App Store enables IOS users to access Crypto Wallets (Coinbase, Metamask, Bitso, etc), it still hasn’t accepted NFT’s as a “product” or an in-app purchase made available by Apple.1
Some plans along Metaverse & Web 3.0 strategies for the company might have been in development by Mark Bozon, yet his leave for structuring Disney’s Metaverse strategies seem to take their toll on the newest Apple’s proposals for NFT purchases.2
Apple’s Term’s now include a 30% cut, way above OpenSea’s 5% commission. It’s obvious this percentage will be off-putting to developers and NFT creators. This transactions would be in fiat currency as well, steering clear off the Cryptocurrencies for the moment.3
This update might, after all, be a good thing. It can empower and deliver more than 1 Billion new players and wallets into the CryptoSpace. As some in the NFT community focus on the commission fee; some are encouraging the bright side:
Is Disney About to Make its Big Crypto Move into NFT, Metaverse and DeFi?
Though it wouldn’t be its first step in this direction, there is yet another suggestion that the media giant the Walt Disney Company may be gearing up for a major move into the realms of the metaverse, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and decentralized finance (DeFi).
Disney is looking to hire a transaction lawyer to explore emerging technology opportunities, including NFTs, blockchain, metaverse, and DeFi, according to a job ad on LinkedIn posted over the weekend.
This would be "an experienced corporate attorney" who'd work for the company's Corporate Transactions Group, within the Legal Department.
Furthermore, they'd be required to provide legal advice and support for global NFT products, and closely collaborate with other Disney attorneys and business stakeholders, including Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution and Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, the ad said.
Walmart Dives Into Metaverse With Launches in Roblox
The retail giant filed for trademarks earlier this year that may have hinted at its intent to sell goods in the metaverse.
Retail giant Walmart (WMT) is allowing consumers to experience the metaverse through the launch of two new experiences in gaming platform Roblox. The move comes after Walmart filed seven trademarks at the end of December that signaled its plans to make and sell virtual goods in the metaverse.
Walmart has created two experiences, one called Walmart Land and the other Walmart’s Universe of Play, according to a statement Monday. Walmart Land will include a virtual merchandise store, while Universe of Play contains various toy worlds and games.
“Roblox is one of the fastest growing and largest platforms in the metaverse, and we know our customers are spending loads of time there,” William White, Walmart U.S.’ chief marketing officer, said in the statement. “So, we’re focusing on creating new and innovative experiences that excite them, something we’re already doing in the communities where they live, and now, the virtual worlds where they play,” he added.4
